DRHS SERVICES

The DRHS is the stray holding facility for the City of Dubuque, Dubuque County, and Jo Daviess County. If you have lost an animal within these areas, please check the lost and found pet page. If you have found a stray or lost animal, please check the lost and found pets page to see requirements prior to bringing them in.

If you have an animal that you need to rehome, call or email the DRHS to give us basic information and we will work with you to schedule a rehoming appointment and determine rehoming fees. The DRHS is also partnered with Rehome by Adopt-a-Pet.com to provide free* rehoming courtesy listings - learn more information here.

The DRHS offers low-cost spay and neuter clinics approximately every 2 months. Find out more information and sign up today!

Low-Cost Microchip Clinic

The DRHS offers low-cost microchip ($25) clinics approximately every 4-6 weeks. The DRHS offers microchips all year around for a fee of $45; walk-ins welcomed.

Hadley's Dog Park is the first and only member-only dog park in the Dubuque community. Located on Kinsey's Campus at the DRHS, the park features over an acre of green space allowing dogs to run, play and socialize and is open year-round.

The DRHS continually strives to find new and innovative ways to keep pets with their families. Financial difficulties due to job loss or a change in family status are among the top reasons why owners surrender pets to the DRHS. We provide food and supplies to struggling pet owners.

The DRHS is proud to offer our “Vets Need Pets” program in partnership with the local Veteran’s Freedom Center. The program offers veterans $50 off a cat or dog adoption with their military ID.

Here at the DRHS we recognize that traditional family homes aren’t for every cat. Working cats are healthy but independent cats from local shelters available to community members looking for natural pest deterrents. Whether you run a business or maintain a barn, we can help you find the perfect working cat for your workspace.
