REHOMING A PET
At the DRHS, we understand that life sometimes changes course which could result in the need to find a new home for your family pet. In an effort to assist with this transition, we offer several options.
To rehome your animal through the shelter, please call 563-582-6766. In this initial step, general information is gathered about your animal and your circumstances, allowing us to best determine next steps. Appointments help us maintain sufficient space and resources to care for all the animals being housed at the DRHS. Appointments are typically scheduled approximately 2-4 weeks out with rehoming fees starting at $40 for cats and $75 for dogs.
The DRHS also now partners with Adopt-a-Pet.com to provide free* rehoming courtesy listings. This option allows you to rehome your animal directly to a new home without ever coming to the shelter.
Rehome by Adopt a Pet helps you safely find a new home for your pet. All you need to do is to set up your pet's profile (should take less than 10 mins). Once completed, your pet's profile will be posted on Adopt-a-Pet.com and be seen by millions of visitors each month!
