The Dubuque Regional Humane Society (DRHS) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and enthusiastic Volunteer Community Care Representative to join our team. What You'll Do

As a Volunteer Community Care Representative, you'll play a vital role in creating a positive experience for visitors, volunteers, and adopters by:

• Greeting visitors and volunteers with professionalism, warmth, and compassion.

• Answering phones and assisting with general inquiries.

• Providing accurate information regarding DRHS programs, policies, and services.

• Processing pet adoptions, adoption holds, returns, and counseling prospective adopters.

• Receiving owner-surrendered and stray animals while ensuring accurate documentation.

• Processing payments and balancing cash drawers.

• Entering data into PetPoint and maintaining accurate records.

• Creating lost and found reports and animal cage cards.

• Assisting with animal socialization and safe animal handling.

• Maintaining knowledge of adoptable animals, shelter events, and special needs.

• Receiving and organizing donated items.

• Working collaboratively with staff and volunteers to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

You'll Also Help With

Because caring for animals is a team effort, you'll occasionally assist with:

• Cleaning animal enclosures

• Feeding and providing fresh water

• Walking dogs and socializing animals

• Laundry, dishes, and general housekeeping

• Janitorial tasks including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, snow removal, and sidewalk salting

• Assisting with dog restraint during vaccinations and temperament evaluations

• Other duties that support the daily operation of the shelter

• Friendly, compassionate, and customer-service oriented

• Able to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

• Comfortable multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities

• A dependable team player with excellent communication skills

• Comfortable handling animals safely and compassionately

• Proficient with basic computer and data entry tasks

• Experienced with cash handling (preferred)

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

• Lift up to 25 pounds

• Stand and sit for extended periods

• Bend, twist, stoop, and move throughout the shelter

• Safely handle dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
