
Join our team as an Animal Care Technician/Community Care Representative (Hybrid)
Location: Dubuque Regional Humane Society (DRHS)

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is looking for a compassionate, adaptable team member to join our team in a unique hybrid role that blends animal care with community engagement.
What You’ll Do:
This is not your typical shelter role—you’ll move between caring for animals and supporting the people who love them. Your day might include:
🐾 Animal Care & Welfare

Provide daily care including feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and monitoring animal health

Maintain clean, safe, and comfortable living spaces for all animals

Observe and report medical or behavioral concerns

Support low-stress, humane handling practices
-
Assist with animal movement throughout the shelter to support positive outcomes
🏡 Adoption & Community Engagement

Welcome visitors with warmth and professionalism
-
Guide adopters through the process and help match pets with the right homes

Facilitate adoptions, holds, and returns
-
Answer phones and provide accurate information about services
-
Process transactions and maintain a positive adoption experience
📋 Intake & Customer Support

Assist with intake of stray and owner-surrendered animals
-
Accurately document information using shelter software (PetPoint)

Manage lost and found reports
-
Support community members with resources and solutions
-
Navigate sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
🤝 Team & Shelter Operations

Flex between front desk and animal care responsibilities as needed

Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient animal flow
-
Support enrichment, socialization, and behavioral observations

Maintain accurate records and a clean, organized facility

Contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture
What You Bring:

A strong commitment to animal welfare and DRHS’s mission

Excellent customer service and communication skills
-
Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic environment

Comfort working with animals of all types and temperaments

Basic computer skills (PetPoint experience a plus)

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stay active throughout your shift
