The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is looking for a compassionate, adaptable team member to join our team in a unique hybrid role that blends animal care with community engagement.

  • Maintain clean, safe, and comfortable living spaces for all animals

  • Observe and report medical or behavioral concerns

  • Support low-stress, humane handling practices

  • Assist with animal movement throughout the shelter to support positive outcomes

🏡 Adoption & Community Engagement

  • Welcome visitors with warmth and professionalism

  • Guide adopters through the process and help match pets with the right homes

  • Facilitate adoptions, holds, and returns

  • Answer phones and provide accurate information about services

  • Process transactions and maintain a positive adoption experience

📋 Intake & Customer Support

  • Assist with intake of stray and owner-surrendered animals

  • Accurately document information using shelter software (PetPoint)

  • Manage lost and found reports

  • Support community members with resources and solutions

  • Navigate sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism

🤝 Team & Shelter Operations

  • Flex between front desk and animal care responsibilities as needed

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient animal flow

  • Support enrichment, socialization, and behavioral observations

  • Maintain accurate records and a clean, organized facility

  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture

What You Bring:

  • A strong commitment to animal welfare and DRHS’s mission

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic environment

  • Comfort working with animals of all types and temperaments

  • Basic computer skills (PetPoint experience a plus)

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stay active throughout your shift

Working Environment:

This role is active and hands-on, with exposure to:

  • Animal noise, odors, and allergens

  • Cleaning and sanitation tasks

  • Emotional situations involving animals and people

Why This Role Matters

You’ll play a critical role in both animal welfare and community connection—helping animals receive excellent care while creating meaningful, positive experiences for every person who walks through our doors.
