WANT TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER? If you would like to become a shelter volunteer, we have lots of ways that you can get involved. To get started, fill out our volunteer application and attend one of our Volunteer Orientations held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 am (second Saturday for February only), or the third Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. For more information, contact Ann Lorenz, Community Outreach Coordinator at 563-582-6766, or send an email to ann@dbqhumane.org.  All volunteers must be at least 12.  Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult (18 or over) at all times.

Volunteer Duties at our Mall Center
Duties for the Mall include the following:
(1) SMILE! Greet customers and potential adopters as they enter the store.
(2) Hang near the front of the store to keep an eye on our retail items. Please remain standing and greeting as much as possible.
(3) Write up retail orders if you want (the staff will show you how)
(4) Help the staff as needed (cleaning windows, sweeping, etc.)
(5) Be sure to sign in and out!!
(6) The staff handles all of the adoptions and will get animals in and out for customers
(7) Please don't handle the animals without permission from a staff person
If you have questions about anything - don't hesitate to ask the staff person on duty!

Reading with Rover at the Library
Children in grades K-3 can read to shelter pets through partnerships with the Library on Saturday, May 10 from 10:30 to 11:15 AM (new ending time). We will need several volunteers - some to sit and listen and others to read to the kids. (Second Saturday of each month.)

Kids & Companions Club
We need assistance with our monthly Kids & Companions Club. Saturday dates in 2008 include: May 3, June 7, July 5, August 2, September 6, and October 4.

Pets on the Road
Sam's Club: Saturday, June 28: Shifts are 10 to Noon, Noon to 2
PETCO: Saturday, May 10: Noon to 2, *2 to 4
PETCO: Saturday, May 24: *9:45 to 12, 12 to 2, *2 to 4

Dubuque Farmers' Market: Saturday, August 2 for "Dog Days" event. Shifts are 7 to 9 AM, 9 to 11 AM (go directly to Farmers' Mkt.)

Fords on the River Car Show
Fords on the River (5th annual car show) event on Sunday, June 1 from 11 AM to 3 PM at Eagle Window & Door parking lot. Some of the proceeds go to our shelter.
