Sunny McCall, beloved dog of Jane McCall and the Dubuque Humane Society staff, passed on August 31, 2006. He was 12 ½ years old and had a wonderful life. He visited thousands of school children and helped them learn how to avoid dog bites. Sunny visited many nursing homes and loved the pats on the head as well as the great food treats he received while visiting.

Sunny was born in Japan and was a Japanese Kennel Club Registered Labrador Retriever. He came to the Dubuque Humane Society as a three year old, surrendered by his owner, in 1997 and was adopted by Jane. Sunny came to work with Jane every day and when he could no longer make it up the steps to her office he laid in the front office underfoot but no one cared. He was fondly known as “speed bump” for lying in the middle of the driveway resting in the sunshine. Sunny had a wonderful life, coming to the shelter every day, hanging out with people who loved him and cared about him, begging for treats (quite successfully) and seeking attention from all who entered the door.

He was very much loved by all who knew him especially the Dubuque Humane Society staff and volunteers. He never passed up a treat! My sincere thanks to Colonial Terrace Animal Hospital for their years of caring for him and his medical needs.

Sunny is survived by Jane McCall and the entire DRHS staff. Memorials may be sent to the Dubuque Humane Society.
