A Note from Joey's Mom
Joey's Mom here! Just thought I would jump in and tell you just how much we love Joey! I often call him Jo-Jo...and if he is being a naughty boy - JOSEPH!! Joey is such a character. For the first week he lived here, he slept on the floor in our bedroom. He would pace a bit, and I chalked it up to nervousness. Well&week two the gigantic boy is now sprawled out on our bed at night...yes, the head count is two humans and three dogs!! We could no longer resist his big sad eyes pleading with us as he leaned over with his two front paws on the bed and the back paws on the floor.
What else...oh, that little problem with wanting to lift his leg to mark in the house...it happened on day one. So, Mommy-Dog ran to Petsmart and bought him some denim pants (actually a belly band), and of course, he looks precious. Nothing like a giant dog in a denim tutu to tug at your heart. We are hoping to train him out of those pants. We laugh when we wake up in the morning to find he has wriggled out of them! Joey loves balls and squeaky toys, although we now call him "Destruct-o Dog." They don't survive long! He digs in the toy basket to find his latest obsession and squeaks away until the squeaker is squeakless! Joey gives licks on the face to his brother and sister dogs (as well as us). They can't help but like him! Joey has learned how to bark at the neighbor dog from Shelby, and how to play fetch (almost) from his brother Helmie! They are such a cute three-some. The joy he adds to the family was immediate and no doubt will grow each day. I don't know who is happier...Joey for having a dedicated loving family, or us for having a gentle, affectionate, goofy boy to share our lives with. Dogs are good. All dogs are good. We humans sometimes fail to do them justice. One thing I hope your little camp girls know is that they brought joy to Joey - and Joey has them in his heart forever. I hope they continue to bring love and happiness to all the lucky dogs (and cats) who live at the Humane Society. One dog at a time&we can make a big difference in their lives...and that is worth a million!!!
Thanks to all the staff at the Dubuque Humane Society and the (Kids 'N' Critters) Camp Girls who put that twinkle in Joey's big brown eyes! The Wimmer family will love this big boy forever! I grew up in Holy Cross, just twenty miles or so from Dubuque. Like me, Joey will always have Iowa in his soul!
