Humane Education & Tours

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society (DRHS) has three Humane Education programs that we can present at your location or at the shelter at no charge. The programs can be tailored to any age group and include: DRHS shelter talk, Pet Safety & Bite Prevention, and Pet Care & Responsibility. The humane education staff reaches over 6,100 kids each year.

Have a Party for the Animals!

Party for the Animals Our Falb Training Center is available for party rentals. You can have full use of this spacious room for two hours. If the birthday child elects to have their party guests bring items for our furry shelter friends from our WISH LIST, they will receive a Kid’s Care certificate and will be listed in our newsletter. The center is available M/W/F – anytime from 10 AM to 5 PM, T/TH from 10 AM to 7 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Advance room reservations required by calling Ann at 563-583-3314 or 563-582-6766, or send an email to ann@dbqhumane.org. (The $25 room rental package is no longer available). Party rentals are a tax-deductible donation to the shelter. All rentals include tables and chairs. Refrigerator available. Feel free to bring in food.

CHOOSE FROM TWO PARTY PACKAGES:

PAWS PARTY: $50 (2-hour room rental package includes one hour of staff/volunteer time with kids' games and activities, and hands-on time with *pets). Limited to 12 child guests.
"PUP-ALOOZA" Deluxe Party: $100 (2-hour room rental deluxe package includes up to two hours of staff/volunteer time including a shelter tour, decorated 9x13" birthday cake (dog or cat theme), coordinating party favors, kids' games and activities, and hands-on time with *pets.) Limited to 20 child guests.

*Pet interaction depend on animals we have "in stock" at the time of the party. On occasion, some of our party volunteers bring their own kid-friendly dogs to the festivities.

Kids & Companions Club

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society's Kids & Companions Club is a special club for animal-loving kids under 12 providing hands-on time with our adoptable pets. (Kids over 12 can become shelter volunteers.) Kids also learn about pet care and safety. Our kids club is free, however donations are always welcome. The clubhouse typically meets on the first Saturday of each month (except for November and December) from 11 AM to Noon. All children under 5 who come to the clubroom must be accompanied by an adult. Enrollment forms available at the front desk. Clubroom only accommodates 35 kids. Girl and Boy Scout troupes are encouraged to schedule separate times for tours or activities.

Reading with Rover

Reading with Rover is a Dubuque Regional Humane Society/Carnegie-Stout Public Library partnership for kids in grades K-3.  Kids will get the opportunity to read to a pet, or they can just listen to a pet story along with some canine companions.  Check under Upcoming Events for current dates and times.

Kids ‘N’ Critters Camp

Kids 'N' Critters Camp is our annual animal adventure camp. Call early as the camps fill up fast. Cost is $95 for a fun-filled week of camp. The camp runs from 1 to 4 PM each day. The shelter will run six camps again in 2010.
