General Information

Our Mission
DRHS protects and promotes the well-being of all animals by fostering respect for their inherent dignity.

Our Vision

DRHS envisions a community where every pet has a permanent and loving home, companion animals are spayed or neutered and all animals are treated with respect and compassion.

How We Are Funded

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society (DRHS) is a private, publicly supported non-profit organization. We have contracts to house animals from Jo Daviess County, and the City of Hazel Green. We are not, however, a part of the city or county governments. We do several major fundraising events each year, including a garage sale in March, our pledged pet walk/run “Scruffy Shuffle” in May, a fall gala in September, and our Christmas Appeal each December.

We could not exist without donations and these fundraising activities. More than 49% of DRHS's operating funds come directly from donations. 31% of our funding comes from animal services such as adoptions, boarding, creamations and burials.

The DRHS receives no money from taxes or any governmental agencies. All funding comes from donations from individuals, foundations and corporations.
